Rhodes airport privatization approved

Nationwide media reported a while ago that the greek government have officially approved the privatization of 14 regional airports, thus and according to the recent tender results Fraport will be the new operator for the next 40+10 years.

Fraport though commented that they have not yet signed a deal although the greek government approval is a basis for further negotiatons that will hopefully seal the deal and have signed contracts.

Besides Rhodes aiport that heads the 14 airports in traffic volume rest that go to Fraport are: Thessaloniki (SKG), Corfu (CFU), Chania (CHQ), Kefallonia (EFL), Zante (ZTH), Aktion (PVK), Kos (KGS), Samos (SMI), Mytilini (MJT), Mykonos (JMK), Santorini (JTR) and Skiathos (JSI).

According to preliminary known data the process was to begin after the conclusion of the current summer season so as Fraport can operate them from 2016 season and on. Specific plans were not made available but we do really hope that Diagoras airport will receive all necessary modernization needed as soon as possible both in terms of facilities and staffing.

We hope that the deal will be signed in time so as Fraport can invest immediately. We also hope that Fraport executives will sometime later organize a press conference in Rhodes where they will analyze their short and long term plans for Diagoras airport.
