Here are final arrivals stats for 2015 as published from airport authority. Some key points:
- Domestic traffic seems recovering, in 2016 we may see more than 400,000 arrivals as Ryanair will be flying twice daily from Athens while Aegean are strengthening even more their Athens hub and consequently transit passengers from abroad to Rhodes via Athens.
- UK, Germany, Poland, Denmark and Austria did very well providing some extra 79.000 arrivals and covering almost 2/3 of loses from the Russians
- Russian market lost half of its power, some 125,000 less visitors
- Ukraine, for obious reasons, collapsed
- Other key markets were stable giving same or more or less same to 2015 arrivals minimizing thus the impact of the Russian's decline
- Spain and Turkey, both big markets but with different characteristics, have almost failed as arrivals are decreasing instead of growing. Vueling in fact seems to be terminating Barcelona service after 3 summers of low numbers while there were also shut down rumors regarding Borajet's Istanbul service.
